A swim before lunch. Something good from a Jamaican kitchen. A shop that makes you stop. The Hip Strip works best when you give yourself a reason to come, then leave a little room for the unexpected.
Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, still called Gloucester Avenue and Bottom Road, connects much of Montego Bay’s visitor life. Our district guide follows the road from its Kent Avenue junction towards Harmony Beach Park. Start with the kind of day you want, then use the business profiles to choose the places.
Make Doctor’s Cave your beach stop
If getting into the sea is the point of your afternoon, start with Doctor’s Cave Beach. It sits on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard and has a managed entrance. The bathing club lists daily opening hours of 8:30am to 5:30pm, with changing rooms, showers and beach chairs and umbrellas available to rent.
Admission and equipment rental are separate decisions. Follow the bathing club’s current admission link before you go, then decide whether you want a quick swim or a longer beach afternoon. For a family or group, it is easier to settle that together before everyone has arrived with different plans.
Choose a waterfront pause at Harmony Beach Park
You do not have to build every outing around a paid attraction. Harmony Beach Park is UDC’s free public-access waterfront park, with green space beside the sea. It offers a different kind of stop from a bathing club: somewhere to slow down, enjoy the setting and give the day some space.
The grounds and swimming beach have separate operating arrangements. Pick the visit you actually want, whether that is time in the park or a swim, and check the corresponding schedule rather than treating them as the same thing.

Give lunch a proper place in the day
The beach does not have to be the whole itinerary. Choose a food stop that suits the mood: Jamaican cooking at Pelican, a jerk stop at Pork Pit, or one of the beachside options at Doctor’s Cave. A table, a menu and a little time often make a better afternoon than trying to fit six stops into an hour.
Use our Hip Strip food guide to narrow the choices. Open the business profile for contact details, directions and the operator’s website where available.
Browse the shops with something in mind
A gift for someone at home. Clothing you will actually wear. Something useful that reminds you where you bought it. Start there and let the shops do the rest.
Ask about the maker and materials when those matter to you. Compare the total price and currency, and leave enough time to choose comfortably. Our shopping directory brings the district’s retail stops together, including Cookies Jamaica and souvenir shops.
Let the evening have its own plan
For nightlife on the boulevard, look at Lounge 2727’s current programme. Pier 1 on the Waterfront is another Montego Bay option on Howard Cooke Boulevard, beyond our core Hip Strip boundary. Its website advertises Star Struck Wednesdays and Pier Pressure Fridays.
A weekly theme and a particular ticketed event are different things. The Montego Bay events calendar helps you find dated plans across the city; the regular-night guide helps you choose a venue.
Put your day together
Choose one main stop, one meal and one extra. A beach afternoon can lead into shopping; lunch can lead into a waterfront pause. Start with the full Hip Strip directory, keep the places you want to visit close together, and arrange your return journey around your last stop.
